The soils in this region are red-brown clay soils. Yirgacheffe is universally considered the birthplace of Arabica and is recognized as one of the microzones from which the best coffees in the world come. The environmental characteristics of Yirgacheffe cause the coffee to develop floral nuances, complex sweetness and sparkling acidity.
In March 2017, the Ethiopian Prime Minister approved a reform to allow producers to directly export their coffee, which led to a precise selection of the best lots, higher wages for farmers, resulting in a considerable increase in quality .
